This World is Not For Cowards: Vijay Eswaran

One of the ‘Heroes of Philanthropy’ as named in Forbes Asia 2011, Vijay Eswaran graduated from the London School of Economics in 1984. Two years later he obtained an MBA from Southern Illinois University then returned home in the late 1990s.

Today, Vijay is able to tuck an amazing array of accomplishments under his belt. He is a published author, CEO, motivational speaker, and philanthropist. Currently, he is the head of the e-commerce conglomerate QI Group, a company that began life in 1998 as QNET.

QI has grown since its early days and has been awarded “Best Company to Work for in Asia” award by HR Trade Journal in 2015 thanks to the hard work of Vijay Eswaran and his employees. It was one of twenty winners out of one hundred thirty seven competitors for the title.

Awards for excellence are surely something Vijay Eswaran is no stranger to. Among his accolades and achievements can be found such as the 2012 New Global Indian Award for philanthropy and business excellence, Malaysian CEO of the Year 2013, and a Special Award for Educational Entrepreneurship and Leadership given at the Eighteenth Malaysian Educational Summit in 2014. Vijay Eswaran has also been gifted with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Regional Philanthropy by the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute of Malaysia.

Topping off his impressive resume of service to his fellow man, Vijay Eswaran has published four books all stressing that learning experiences within one’s lifetime should facilitate self-actualization. His life management philosophy is a blend of spirituality, business and mouna and it can be found within the pages of Sphere of Silence, In the Thinking Zone, and 18 Stepping Stones. Vijay has also published a collection of his own photography in a volume called On the Wings of Thought.

Vijay occasionally writes an uplifting blog and a ‘Thoughts of the Day’ program that anyone seeking positive words of wisdom may subscribe to on Facebook. In all of his writing, he discusses first accepting one’s own journey in life then sharing the wisdom of that journey to be of service to others.

Vijay runs two charitable foundations in Malaysia, the Vijayaratnam Foundation named for his father, and RYTHM. The RYTHM foundation is more well known throughout the world and is a non-profit organization that provides relief for victims of natural disasters, offers educational programs for children with special needs, and many other ‘pay it forward’ projects. Vijay Eswaran certainly lives up to his father’s philosophy “Service Before Self.”
