Charles Koch Continues His Support Of George Mason University

Since its founding in 1972 George Mason University has been known for providing an education based in conservative and libertarian values, which are now being shown through the continued support of the educational institution by donors including Charles Koch. The Republican leaning donor has been providing tens of millions of dollars for the university for decades that makes the college the top educational institution donated to by Koch; other educational institutions have recently been given donation not exceeding $1 million by Charles Koch.

Charles Koch has become a major player in the world of politics and philanthropy in recent years; alongside his brother David the elder Koch brother has pushed their Koch Industries business to new levels of success around the world. Despite their success the need to give something back to the community has always been high on the list of requirements for Charles Koch. The political giving of Koch has risen to high levels, but generally comes second to his need to provide support for philanthropic causes that are largely based in educational programs.

The level of giving to George Mason University has reach staggering levels with 2014 reported to show gifts totaling over $16 million from Charles Koch to the college. Despite his continued support that recently saw Charles Koch provide a $10 million donation to the law school at George Mason the well known conservative states the gifts are provided without any stipulations on use or direction from the head of Koch Industries. One of the main reasons Koch has become such an avid supporter of the work of George Mason University is the shared libertarian and conservative beliefs between donor and institution, which has resulted in the growth of a respected free market think tank based at George Mason University.

Help Avi Weisfogel Support Operation Smile

One of life’s most heartbreaking events is surely the birth of a child with a cleft palate or cleft lip, what used to be called “hare lip.” Although this facial defect is easily remedied by means of simple plastic surgery, it’s only in the developed country that parents can afford to have their child’s deformity corrected, allowing the child to enjoy a healthy and normal life. In many parts of the world, however, only a few parents have the means to pay for such surgery. The children born with this malady must face a life of exclusion, prejudice, and abuse.

What a positive step was taken, then, by William and Kathleen Magee, who founded the charity Operation Smile in 1982. Impelled by seeing the devastating effects of facial deformities in children during his work in the Philippines, Dr. Magee gathered together a board of physicians committed to making a difference, and began the process of collecting medical resources and staff.
Over the years, Operation Smile has achieved resounding success in over sixty countries around the world. The charity’s clinics, staffed by international medical professionals, have provided over a quarter of a million free facial surgeries for children and adolescents. They have made an immense contribution to world health, but there is still much more to be done.
That’s where Dr. Avi Weisfogel comes in. A New Jersey native, Dr. Weisfogel’s career is in dentistry. He studied at Rutgers and earned his professional DDS credentials from New York University. Having established a successful dental practice in New Jersey, and having won a number of awards for excellence in dentistry, Dr. Weisfogel went on to widen his field. Because of the role of the teeth, jaws, and nasal passages in sleeping disorders, Dr. Weisfogel has for over five years focused his attention on this area of medical research. Through his lectures, seminars, and workshops, he helps both individual patients and dentists understand how disorders such as sleep apnea can be addressed through dental means and using oral devices.
But Avi Weisfogel is also a philanthropist. Casting his net further afield, he recently discovered Operation Smile, and realized just how closely his interests were related to those of the charity originally founded by the Magees. Dr. Weisfogel has opened up a GoFundMe campaign to increase funding opportunities for Operation Smile. The GoFundMe website allows individuals to set up crowdfunding projects seeking personal donations. There’s no doubt that, with Avi Weisfogel’s commitment and assistance, Operation Smile will indeed have something to smile about.

The NYPD has received support from Keith Mann, New York Company Dynamic Search Partners founder, after the recent wave of protests and violence directed towards the force. Mann and his wife Keely sent lunch to the 54th Street precinct to boost morale and avoid the negativity around the force.

According to Mann, simple actions can make a big difference when supporting the protectors of everyday citizens

Avi Weisfogel’s Tips On Avoiding Having A Baby With Cleft Lip And How To Help Others With The Condition

Cleft lip is one of the most common birth defects, affecting over 4,000 babies in the U.S. alone. Less common, but more devastating, the cleft palate can lead to a host of issues. Babies can be born with a cleft lip, a cleft palate, or both, depending on the severity of the situation. And there is no known cause. This defect can strike any family at any time, but there are some precautions you can take to help avoid this condition in a newborn:

Don’t smoke. Women who smoke carry a higher rate of cleft lip with or without cleft palate than women who do not smoke. Doctors have not figured out the link between smoking and cleft lip, but they know it exists.

Women with diabetes have a higher chance of having a baby with cleft lip. Know your family history. You may be at risk of Type 2 Diabetes with weight gain.

Certain medications also make it more likely to have a baby with cleft lip. If you are on medication, consult with a doctor to know the risks.

Babies born in the U.S. are lucky because they have access to surgery that can help the condition. Dental surgeons can attach the lip and the cleft palate in order to avoid a host of problems associated with the birth defect. But surgery is recommended within the first 18 months of life, meaning that many babies born with the condition in impoverished areas around the world do not have a chance of getting the surgery.

That is why Avi Weisfogel is stepping up a Go Fund Me campaign. The successful New Jersey dentist knows about the birth defect all to well, and he wants to help those in need who may otherwise miss out on the opportunity for surgery. Avi Weisfogel runs a very successful practice in Old Bridge, New Jersey, where he helps patients every day. But his reach is limited in New Jersey, so his GoFundMe benefits Operation Smile.

Avi Weisfogel takes hours of continuing education every year in order to help his patients with the newest information. That’s why he knows that cleft lip and palate surgery is incredibly beneficial to those with the birth defect. He knows that Operation Smile uses the latest innovations to help those afflicted with the condition around the world, donating surgeries to those in poor communities worldwide. Follow Avi on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date on his campaign.
