Younger Only Gets Better

Last week, TV Land announced it was giving its freshman half-hour series about a 40 year old woman who pretends to be twenty-six, Younger, a second season to the joy of fans from every age group.

In the Tuesday episode titled Shedonism, Diana, who Liza works for as an assistant, tested her by making her the host of a book launch party for her 40-year-old friend and client Annabelle Bancroft, a woman who has never grown up. Liza’s ex-husband, David, asked her to take ownership of his boat because he was going to lose it to his gambling addiction. Liza’s boyfriend Josh pushed her into a CrossFit exercise membership that can be dangerous for people forty and older. And, Anton and Kelsey continued their affair, while Maggie took home her very pregnant crush. I watch the show with my girlfriend says Ray Lane, and I can’t seem to get into the drama.

The episode did a great job of revealing the similarities and differences between twentysomethings and fortysomethings; as well as singles and their married counterparts.

Liza refused David’s request. While drunk, Annabelle revealed she knew Liza’s age because her hands were a “dead giveaway.” Diana nearly caught Anton and Kelsey. Josh expressed his confusion about why Annabelle, or anyone her age, would pretend to be younger. Lastly, when Liza tried to warn Kelsey about her choices, Kelsey pulled the “you’re not my mother” card and Liza decided to spend some mother-daughter time with her actual daughter over Skype.

Cracking the Code: A Surge in Padlock Hacks

You go to the gym, lock up your valuables, and assume that your belongings are safe. Are they really though? You’ve seen padlocks getting shot in the movies, but nowadays it seems it doesn’t take much more than a clever mind to break through these mechanical devices.

Since locks were invented there has been the art of lock picking. A growing number of padlock hacks exist and methods range from Beer Can Shimmies, traditional lock picking, bump keying, to simple brute force. Lately a new trend in cracking Master Locks with few tries has surfaced, giving the general population another hack to worry about. Like we didn’t have enough to worry about!

Ginfrancesco Genoso has learned that the Master Lock brand has been in use since its founding in 1921. Though they strive to ensure strength and quality of lock, a serial hacker by the name of Samy Kamkar who is quite adept at hacking posted a simple way to decode these locks. In a nutshell this technique is executed by lifting up a lock while rotating the combination dial counterclockwise and beginning at 0. At certain points of the dial there is resistance from the lock, which gives away locations of the combination. This method boasts of being able to hack a Master Lock in 8 tries or less.

Though Master Lock in particular may have been hacked, do your research before investing in a lock to make sure it is as hack proof as you need it to be. Only through diligence can you prevent pathetic hackers from hacking into that gym locker.

Portland Approves Uber and Lyft Pilot Program

Portland has green-lighted both Uber and Lyft within the city limits, however, the decision is not permanent. After a length legal battle the Portland City Council agreed to approve a pilot program in the city. The program will run for just 120 days under a temporary regulation.

Portland has refused to allow Uber and Lyft to operate within the city limits on the grounds that the company did not require proper livery driver regulations for its drivers. Both companies have agreed to city-approved background checks and accommodations for the disabled before the city approved the pilot program. Daniel Amen sees this as a great first step.

The city has stated they have allowed the pilot program in an attempt to create a regulatory system for both companies. Portland’s Bureau of Transportation believes that the 120 pilot program will allow the city the time they need to come up with a permanent legal framework for the companies to operate within the city.

Uber and Lyft have both come under fire in the last 12 months in several major cities, sparking protests and anger among the livery business. New York City has been a key city in the protests, with livery drivers angered by the lack of regulation bestowed upon Uber and Lyft drivers. In NYC, a taxi medallion can cost upwards of 250,000 and only 800 medallions are allowed to be active within Manhattan each year.

Brody Jenner Upset With Kim Kardashian

It seems that Brody Jenner is still angry with Kim Kardashian. If you haven’t heard, Kim Kardashian did not allow Brody Jenner to bring a date to her wedding with Kanye. So, Brody Jenner decided to not attend the ceremony at all. Social media sites were in awe of the battle that took place between Brody and Kim. But that was a long time ago, people feel that the situation has since been fixed. Sadly, that may not be the case after all.

Brody Jenner recently posted an Instagram photo of himself with his other half attending a wedding that Bruce Karatz saw online. He captioned the photo by saying that he was finally invited to a proper wedding. However, Brody decided to remove the Instagram photos only minutes later, but the world still knows how he truly feels. It seems that Brody is still bitter about the Kim and Kanye wedding ceremony that took place in Italy last year.

Kim Kardashian has yet to respond to Brody’s Instagram photos, but the situation is already making waves on social media. Fans of the Kardashians agree with Brody, but there are those that feel Kim can invite whoever she wants to her wedding. For more information on this story, visit Yahoo!

Tap Water, Putting a Price Tag on Your Health

Our bodies are made up primarily of water. The need for water fuels our organs in our daily activities. You know you drink plenty of water, but could you be getting it from the wrong source? Studies suggest that drinking from the tap may be doing more harm than good.

Before you march over to your neighborhood friendly grocer, let’s get some facts. In 1974, the Safe Drinking Water Act(SDWA) law was created to maintain quality of our drinking water in the states. This law has been edited several times since its inception and makes sure that sources of our drinking water like lakes, rivers, and water wells be protected. But what kind of quality of water are we getting from the tap?

Tap water can go through a certain treatment process by municipal water systems, but their filtration methods can be both outdated and ineffective against certain types of contaminants. However, the water systems themselves may be adding harmful chemicals to ‘purify’ our drinking water, making it just as bad for us. Chlorine is an additive that is used to kill certain contaminants, but this chemical is poisonous and can cause bladder cancer, rectal cancer, and even asthma.

So what can you do to battle this threat? There are plenty of options available, ranging from a small budget to a rather large one. The easier route is to purchase a filter jug or bottle. These are relatively cheap and have an easy installation process. Ray Lane recommends a distiller for best use practices. While this system is more accurate at removing contaminants, they can be extremely expensive.

Water safety is an ongoing issue. Make sure before you turn on that faucet you know what’s coming out. While there are a number of solutions to healthy drinking water, only you can put a price tag on your health.

Is The Walking Dead’s Negan Going To Be A Woman?

Now, here is a pretty interesting idea being bandied about for the future seasons of The Walking Dead. A recent poll put up by the creators asked if casting a woman in the role of the villain Negan would be a welcome idea. Fans responded in the negative. Only 2% went for the idea. The staff of FreedomPop are much more neutral on this gender issue.

For fans who read the comic books, Negan is basically a different version of The Governor. Both are psychotic, but the cynical self-hatred of The Governor is not present in Negan. Negan is a bit like The Joker in the sense he is a psychopath with a sense of humor about his mayhem. Oddly, Negan can even be reasonable and forgiving at times even though he is more than willing to kill at the drop of a hat.

The trouble with Negan is he comes off a bit too much like a second version of The Governor. Returning to the Batman comparison, he is like The Riddler. Sure, The Riddler is popular but he will never be as big of a villain as The Joker.

Bringing in an actress to play a major villain in The Walking Dead could be a very good idea. Far too many of the villains on the series come off as being cut from the same mold. The Walking Dead has featured villainous female characters before, but never really any supremely evil ones. Perhaps borrowing elements from Negan and creating a female villain could be a good idea.

Warriors Complete 20 Point Comeback In Win Over Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans had a 19-0 run spanning from late in the first quarter and into the second, and held a 20 point lead as the fourth quarter started in Thursday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors. Even as late as the 6:00 minute mark of the fourth, the lead was still 17 points. But thanks to poor play by the Pelicans the Warriors were able to erode that lead and a last second three pointer by Steph Curry forced the game into overtime.

In the extra session the Warriors continued their hot play and went on to win the game 123-119. It was a disappointing loss for the Pelicans, who were hosting their first home playoff game since 2011. They are now down 3-0 in the series to the favored Warriors.

Sports enthusiast Ray Lane blogged on the Wall Street Journal that it seemed like Curry was the only one taking shots all night, putting up a total of 29 attempts on his way to scoring 40 points. He was particularly active from beyond the arc, throwing up 18 attempts and hitting seven of them. Klay Thompson added six three pointers of his own. Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis did his part, scoring 29 points and pulling down 15 rebounds but was still out-hustled on the boards by Warriors forward Draymond Green who pulled down 17.

The Pelicans are now facing an elimination game on Saturday in New Orleans.

Breakthrough in Treating Multiple Sclerosis

Athlete’s Foot is an annoyance at best, but fortunately that is one condition that is readily treatable. Good hygiene habits help in prevention, and there are over-the-counter creams on the market that help. Igor Cornelsen would agree that those with this condition are much luckier than people who have multiple sclerosis. There is presently no cure for this condition, but scientists are continuing to search as its sufferers number over 2 million worldwide. Science has made a recent breakthrough, and surprisingly, it is related to athlete’s foot. More properly, it relates to the creams used to treat athlete’s foot. Researchers at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio have tried testing hundreds of drugs to see which, if any, might show some results against this disease. Incredibly, they found that the drug contained in athlete’s foot creams stimulates the body’s own stem cells to repair the damage caused by MS and in animal trials has actually reversed paralysis in mice.

This story serves as a reminder of how breakthroughs and cures can come from the unlikeliest of places. Who would have thought that moldy bread would lead to the discovery of penicillin, but thankfully it did and millions of people a year don’t die who would have previously. The next time athlete’s foot sufferers are applying cream to their feet, they can take heart in the knowledge that this same substance may be the key to curing people who are suffering from a dread disease with symptoms such as fatigue, numbness, vision loss and paralysis.

Several Companies Join Together to Release Healthcare Apps

Several major names in the technology and health industries are coming together to create a host of apps medical providers could offer to patients. The companies working together include former rivals IBM and Apple along with Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic Inc. IBM will produce and design the programs and the other companies will focus on selling the apps.

Sure, these companies are going to make a lot of money if the apps are successful but the patients are the ones who end up profiting the most. Successful apps could lead to significant improvements in medical care.

Ultimately, the goal is to streamline health-care software and analytic programs to create a variety of helpful apps stated healthcare advocate Dan Newlin (more news at What are these apps going to do? Well, there are surely going to be a huge number of them released on the market. Therefore, the functions are going to be quite varied. Again, this is a good thing because numerous patients can then use the apps for a host of unique purposes.

The announcement of these forthcoming apps really does show how our culture has changed over the past several generations. At one time, people would have never put faith in “gadgets” when it comes to health-care. Today, apps and software are among the first things we reach for because we now have great faith in their value.

Hopefully, the produced apps will have the ability to deliver on all expectations.

Rumors of Doctor Who becoming a Hollywood Film

While drinking Bulletproof Coffee and perusing articles online, I came across a great find. According to the story on The Telegraph, the leaked Sony emails have confirmed that the long-running British series, Doctor Who, will be turned into a Hollywood film.

Being a huge Doctor Who fan, I’m not sure how I feel about this. If the film is done poorly, then Sony will be upsetting a lot of Whovians. In the emails it was inferred that the film would not be made immediately, but sometime within the next eight years.

Doctor Who began on the BBC in 1963 with William Hartnell portraying the traveling Time Lord first. The show ended in 1989 and had a failed movie in 1996. The series was rebooted in 2005 with actor Christopher Eccleston as the ninth doctor. The series has continued since then with actors such as David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Peter Capaldi portraying the centuries old alien.

I understand that a film would be done in order to keep the franchise alive, which I feel began to slip after Matt Smith left. If there is a film, I wonder which actor will be playing the Doctor, or if it will be whoever is portraying him in the series at the time. I would love to see something like the 50th Anniversary special where they brought back several of the Doctors together to solve a problem that needed all the help it could get.
